  • History 

  • CENTRAL FOOTWEAR TRAINING  INSTITUE (CFTI), Chennai is an Autonomous institution lender Ministry of  Small Scale Industries and Agro &Rural industry, Government of India has been working for Human Resource Development for Footwear & allied Industry since 1957.  A two years Diploma course on “Footwear Design & Production” was introduced  in association with Textile Institute, London, U.K.

  • - Endowed with all infrastructure for conducting training programmes; land & building with complete set of modern machinery, tools & equipment.
    - Important footwear & materials testing machines.
    - Well equipped library with text books, periodicals, journals & hand outs related to footwear technology, industry, management and trade.

    Teaching aids including  OHP, slide projector, audio video system & computer with CAD facilities.

    - Experienced & trained faculty.

    - Hostel available.

  • Aims and Objectives

  • AIMS OF THE INSTITUTE :

    a. Primarily, to provide training and related inputs to develop and augment a class of trained personnel in footwear technology and allied industry in the country.

    b. To develop human resources in footwear and allied industry by introduction of advanced training methods and courses, appropriate knowledge and skills to promote and rapid growth of footwear and allied industry in the country.

    c. To promote in general and particular ways, the Indian footwear industry to attain international standards of production.

    OBJECTIVES :

    a.To train personnel in Footwear Technology as per the requirements of trade and industry.

    b.To provide training & research facilities to strainers and technology in the footwear and allied industry with a view to upgrade their skills.

    c.To train Footwear Designers.

    d.To train personnel in maintenances of Footwear Machinery.

    e.To design ;and develop moulds and dies for the Footwear Industry.

    f.To introduce modern technology in Footwear design.

    g.To assist and promote technology upgraduation in Footwear industry.

    h.To develop products and designs with a view to secure advantages in export production.

    i.To undertake testing and assessment of footwear and its materials.

    j.To promote acquisition of international standards in the industry.

    k.To foster appropriate linkages between Central Footwear Training institute and , Industry for utilisation of existing capacities and their upgradation and to undertake consultancy services for development of Footwear industry.

    1.To establish linkages with Education, research and Developmental Institutions in India and abroad and to collaborate with them in training, research and development.

    To organise databases and information dissemination on Footwear Technology, Export Marketing etc., and to establish suitable library and resource centre for trainees and industry.
