Current Scenario

The IPO boom between October 1999- March 2000 created an environment where a number of equity shares of software companies were offered to the public also allowing the Venture Capitalists in these companies to net exceptional returns while divesting their stake. This has been further helped by SEBI’s relaxation of norms for infotech companies. The above relaxation coupled with the tax differential between VCs and corporates announced in the Budget 2000 will help VCs to generate more funds for investing and also more venture capital funds being established instead of they operating through offshore firms.
